When considering the established date for a home, what date do you use? Date of purchase or occupancy?

I’m buying a decorative life preserver for my parents lake house for Christmas and I’m not sure which date to use. They completely remodeled the house, so the date or purchase and occupancy are different.

    It’s your house from the day you purchase it whether you live in it or not so I’d go with that date.
