I have a question about wood restoration?

Cate B asked:

I have a beautiful banister in my living room that unfortunately when we moved in was covered with random specs of paint, and other mystery home improvement substances (tarnish, stain, paint, glue, etc). I want to clean it up and get it back to a presentable state before Christmas! Here’s my problem! My better half has some terrible allergies so I’m hoping to avoid any sanding. Any ideas on good brands of removers, or techniques? Thanks!

You could probably use stripeaze. I don’t think that is how you spell it though. I would say that if you want it to look it’s best, you willl have to do some sanding also. If I were you, I would strip it first, then sand it. Orbital sanders work really well for that kind of think, but if you want to keep the dust to a minimum, I would suggest hand sanding. You can buy hand sanding blocks which work better than regular sandpaper. They are about 4″ long and 1.5″ thick.

    Hope this helps!

If your wife can take the smell denatured alcohol will work on most of what you’ve described. (it smells like nail polish remover.) can be found at any paint store
